Blue Cave - Plava Špilja
The Blue Cave (Plava Špilja) is one of Montenegro's most breathtaking natural wonders, located on the Lustica Peninsula, between Golden Bay and Mala Gora Bay, approximately 11 kilometers from Herceg Novi. This incredible spot attracts travelers with its unique interplay of light and water, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere inside the cave.
The only way to reach the Blue Cave is by sea—on a boat, yacht, or kayak, making the journey even more exciting. A trip to this natural phenomenon is often accompanied by stops in picturesque bays, offering opportunities to observe seagulls, dolphins, and other marine life of the Adriatic. The cave has two entrances: a smaller one on the southern side, measuring 3 meters in height and 15 meters in width, and a larger entrance on the southwest side. The total area of the cave is around 300 square meters, and the water depth reaches 5 meters, while the ceiling rises to 9 meters.

The Blue Cave got its name from the incredible blue glow that fills its interior. This effect is created by the refraction of sunlight, making the shades of blue particularly vivid at midday, when the sun is at its highest. The effect is further enhanced by bioluminescent plankton, which adds a magical shimmer to the water. When visitors swim inside, their bodies seem to glow in the blue light, creating the illusion of floating in an endless azure abyss.
The Blue Cave is a popular swimming destination due to its warm, clear, and transparent waters. Travelers who come here can experience swimming in an otherworldly glow, immersing themselves in the magical blue surroundings. It is also a favorite spot for snorkelers, who explore the underwater world, admiring the play of light and shadow on the rocky walls.

The Blue Cave is especially popular in the summer months, when boat excursions regularly bring visitors from all over the Montenegrin coast. However, even during the peak season, there are moments of tranquility, especially in the early morning, when the first rays of sunlight begin to paint the water in stunning shades of blue.

Every year, the Blue Cave welcomes thousands of visitors, remaining one of the most visited natural attractions in Montenegro. Despite its popularity, it retains a unique atmosphere of seclusion, allowing everyone who enters to experience the true magic of nature.
